The Ascension of the Lord commemorates the moment when Jesus Christ, forty days after His Resurrection on Easter Sunday, ascended bodily into Heaven in the presence of His disciples. Before ascending, He commissioned them to spread the Gospel to all nations, and promised that the Holy Spirit would come to guide and strengthen them — a promise fulfilled ten days later at Pentecost. The Ascension marks the completion of Christ’s saving work on earth and His glorification at the right hand of God the Father.
